Wiley-Blackwell and the American Geophysical Union announce publishing partnership -

Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc, US, has announced that it has been selected by the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the world’s leading society of Earth and space science, as its publishing partner for its portfolio of journals and books. The new partnership will be effective January 2013, subject to completion of a publishing agreement in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding signed last week.

The AGU, a scientific society with a membership of more than 60,000 Earth and space scientists worldwide, publishes 17 journals for the global research community and an extensive book programme in Earth and space science under the Geopress imprint.

Subject to the finalisation of the agreement, Wiley-Blackwell will assume responsibility for AGU’s journal publishing activities in January 2013, collaborating closely on new product and delivery models, subscription fulfillment, production, content management, sales and marketing, and distribution.

AGU will retain control and ownership of all its journals and the scientific aspects of publishing including editorial control and oversight by AGU governance. A separate agreement is being negotiated for partnership on AGU’s book publishing programme. Both will help to support AGU’s wide array of member services and programmes to advance scholarly communication.
