Wiley launches Atypon AI Suite within Atypon Experience Platform for scholarly research discovery -

Wiley has launched the Atypon AI Suite, a set of AI-powered tools embedded in the Atypon Experience Platform intended to help researchers navigate scholarly literature more effectively.

The launch is positioned as a response to growing research volume, with researchers facing challenges in identifying relevant content, understanding specialized material, and focusing attention where it delivers the most value. According to the announcement, the Atypon AI Suite is designed to address these challenges by integrating AI tools into native on-platform experiences.

At launch, the Atypon AI Suite includes two features. The AI Companion enables researchers to interact with content by asking questions and clarifying concepts while reading, supporting engagement with complex and specialized material without leaving the source content. According to Wiley, improvements have already been implemented based on feedback from researchers, with continued refinement and optimization planned.

AI Summaries provide structured overviews that include one-sentence summaries and layperson summaries, enabling readers to assess relevance and make decisions about where to focus their time and attention.

The release describes the AI Suite as reflecting Atypon’s commitment to responsible AI use, with responses grounded exclusively in the content being viewed, clearly labeled as AI-generated, and retained to preserve context, attribution, and editorial intent. Publishers using the Atypon Experience Platform retain control over how the AI Suite is implemented, including where its capabilities are applied across content.

Following pilot testing, the Atypon AI Suite is now available as an add-on to the Atypon Experience Platform, which is described as one of the largest scholarly publishing platforms serving independent publishers and societies. Additional capabilities are expected to be added over time under an iterative development approach.
