Wiley, the global research and education company, has extended its partnership with Kudos, the award-winning platform for managing research dissemination, to enable authors to generate Shareable PDFs (S-PDFs) for their Wiley publications.
S-PDF makes it easy for researchers to create and share plain language summaries of their work, encapsulated in PDFs that can be uploaded to PDF-based sharing services. These overviews set work in a broader context and help a new audience to find and understand it. The Kudos platform then provides authors and participating publishers with metrics to enable like-for-like comparison of different sharing efforts, including the PDF-based sharing supported by S-PDF. This unique dataset makes it possible to understand whether engagement with research is more effectively driven by scholarly collaboration networks, social media, email, or traditional 'offline' activities such as conference posters and talks.
S-PDFs link readers through to full text on publisher websites, and dovetail neatly with other initiatives designed to help researchers improve copyright-compliant visibility for their work on scholarly collaboration networks and via other PDF-based sharing platforms and media. Since its launch in late 2017, S-PDF has doubled the number of publications being shared via Kudos and is substantially the most popular mechanism for sharing.
The Kudos shareable PDF is now available for any publisher who wishes to activate this feature, whether a current Kudos customer or not.
