Wiley showcases AI-driven innovations and insights at Frankfurt Book Fair -

Wiley, a global leader in research and education, unveiled its latest advancements and key insights on artificial intelligence (AI) in scholarly publishing during the recently concluded Frankfurt Book Fair. The event provided Wiley with a platform to share its vision for the future of AI in research and learning, alongside launching new AI-driven initiatives aimed at transforming the publishing landscape.

In a keynote presentation titled Capitalizing on AI for Smarter Publishing, Josh Jarrett, Senior Vice President and General Manager of AI Growth at Wiley, revealed the results of a comprehensive survey involving nearly 5,000 researchers globally. The findings highlighted the high expectations researchers have for AI's potential to enhance the research process, but also underscored concerns about ethical use and the need for clear guidelines from publishers. Jarrett emphasized Wiley's commitment to responsible AI development, discussing practical applications that can enhance productivity and drive innovation within the publishing industry.

Wiley showcased several AI-driven initiatives designed to create a more secure and efficient publishing ecosystem. Key highlights included:

• AI Partnerships for Research: Wiley officially launched its AI Partnerships: A Co-Innovation Program, inviting partners to collaborate on AI advancements in research. The program aims to deliver tangible AI benefits for researchers, with the potential for shaping future AI developments in the academic world.

• Research Integrity and Paper Screening Tools: Wiley demonstrated its AI-powered screening module, designed to detect paper mills, as part of its Research Exchange platform, which streamlines submission, peer review, and research integrity processes. Wiley’s User Data in Motion: Research Integrity Feedback Loops session showcased how this platform offers detailed, actionable insights to maintain research quality.

• Educational Resources on AI: Wiley debuted GenAI For Dummies, part of its well-known For Dummies series, offering a straightforward guide to generative AI. Additionally, Wiley introduced a new AI-focused chapter in its zyBooks courseware, offering interactive learning on essential AI concepts like machine learning and natural language processing, along with discussions on ethics, bias, and privacy.

Building on the success of Advanced Intelligent Systems, Wiley announced plans to expand its prestigious Advanced Portfolio by launching two new AI-focused journals: Advanced Intelligent Discovery and Advanced Robotics Research. These journals are expected to further Wiley’s commitment to publishing cutting-edge AI research by the end of 2024.

Wiley also taped an episode of its new panel discussion series, The Conversations, live at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Titled Into the AI Age: The Role of AI in Research and Learning, the panel featured leading experts discussing AI’s potential to address academic challenges, stimulate creativity, and enhance collaboration. The discussion, moderated by Jay Flynn, included insights from Olivia Gambelin, founder of Ethical Intelligence, Dr. Dorothea Baur, an independent ethics expert, and Ivana Bartoletti, Global Chief Privacy & AI Governance Officer at Wipro.

Wiley’s participation at the Frankfurt Book Fair showcased its dedication to leveraging AI for the advancement of research and learning, positioning itself as a key player in shaping the future of scholarly publishing.
