Wolters Kluwer Health announced that select UpToDate® Enterprise Edition customers now have access to UpToDate patient education materials directly within the Epic electronic health record (EHR) and MyChart patient portal. This integration enables health systems to streamline patient education and clinical decision-making within a unified platform. The UpToDate patient education resources were recently recognized as the Best in KLAS for Patient Education by KLAS Research.
The inclusion of patient education within the UpToDate Enterprise Edition subscription is intended to support healthcare organizations seeking greater alignment in clinical workflows, operational efficiency, and patient engagement. Analysis of UpToDate and Lexidrug™ usage indicated that searches for patient education topics are frequent, even when alternative patient education solutions are available. With this update, care teams can access more than 7,500 digital patient education leaflets directly through the Epic workflow, facilitating assignment and distribution without requiring additional navigation outside of clinical systems.
Patients are now able to search for and retrieve UpToDate education materials on-demand through their MyChart portal, improving accessibility to reliable information that supports greater patient participation in healthcare decisions. This expansion allows care teams to ensure that the education patients receive outside of direct clinical encounters is consistent with the evidence-based guidance followed by clinicians.
Additionally, integration within the EHR environment offers hospital administrators the ability to monitor the use of patient education content through native reporting tools, providing insights into engagement patterns and informing strategies to support patient outcomes.
