Wolters Kluwer, a global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, has announced its appointment, by unanimous vote, to the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI). As an affiliate, non-voting member, Wolters Kluwer will help identify strategic goals and partner with the ANI, a collaboration of organisations that enables a unified voice for nursing informatics, on issues of importance to a growing and very important area in today's healthcare.
As defined in 2015 American Nurses Association (ANA) Nursing Informatics: Scope and Standards of Practice, Second Edition, "Nursing informatics is the specialty that integrates nursing science with multiple information and analytical sciences to identify, define, manage, and communicate data, information, knowledge, and wisdom in nursing practice. NI supports nurses, consumers, patients, the interprofessional healthcare team, and other stakeholders in their decision making in all roles and settings to achieve desired outcomes."
According to respondents to the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS) "2015 Impact of the Informatics Nurse Survey," nurse informaticists bring value to the use of clinical systems and technologies at their healthcare organizations, in particular to the implementation (85%) and optimization (83%) phases of the clinical systems process. Sixty percent of respondents also indicated that nurse informaticists have a high degree of impact on care quality, as well as on workflow, patient safety and user acceptance.
Co-sponsored by the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA) and HIMSS, ANI is a collaboration of organisations that represents more than 5,000 nurse informaticists and brings together over 30 distinct nursing informatics organisations globally. ANI works in collaboration with the more than 4 million nurses in practice today, crossing academia, clinical practice, industry and nursing specialty boundaries in order to advance the specialty’s leadership, practice, education, policy and research through a unified voice of nursing informatics organisations.
