Wolters Kluwer launches UpToDate® Expert AI for clinical decision support -

Wolters Kluwer Health has introduced UpToDate® Expert AI, a generative-AI clinical decision support (CDS) tool for doctors and healthcare systems. Positioned as the next stage of UpToDate, it delivers rapid, GenAI-generated answers grounded in UpToDate’s expert-authored, peer-reviewed content. Responses include one-click views of underlying assumptions, the specific UpToDate source, and the step-by-step reasoning, so clinicians can review and act at the point of care.

Greg Samios, CEO, Wolters Kluwer Health, noted that the product extends UpToDate’s mission by applying GenAI’s speed to provide trustworthy answers while fitting into enterprise workflows.

UpToDate Expert AI's “Clinical Intelligence” is designed to mirror expert clinical reasoning via a multi-layer validation framework and draws on input from 7,600 Wolters Kluwer medical experts, aiming to accelerate informed decisions and support better patient outcomes.

Peter Bonis, Chief Medical Officer, Wolters Kluwer Health, highlighted it uses the collective expertise of contributors to answer complex, specific questions clearly, with clinical reasoning based solely on Wolters Kluwer evidence-based content, providing stronger support for team decisions and enterprise needs for transparency and governance.

UpToDate content is continuously reviewed by editors and authors who monitor leading medical journals, clinical trial data, drug labeling, pharmacology studies, and MEDLINE abstracts.

A customer perspective from St. Luke’s University Health Network’s Associate CMIO, Charles Sonday characterizes the product as a faster, smarter way to obtain trusted answers aligned with quick, evidence-based care at the bedside.

Built for centralized enterprise deployment, UpToDate Expert AI embeds into major tech platforms, AI scribes, and EHRs to support policy compliance and governance, and reduces workflow switching for clinicians. Samios added that the company has worked with health systems for two years to meet needs around transparency, compliance, governance, and trustworthy responses.
