Wolters Kluwer Health has announced the introduction of Ovid Guidelines AI, a new agentic generative AI (GenAI) solution designed to support the development of clinical practice guidelines. The tool is intended to accelerate the transformation of prospective clinical research into structured medical recommendations by automating elements of evidence synthesis, thereby helping healthcare organizations keep guidelines aligned with current scientific knowledge.
The platform will be first implemented through a collaboration with the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO), which will showcase its early adoption—the ASCO Guideline Generator—at the 2025 ASCO Annual Meeting. Wolters Kluwer, ASCO, and Google Cloud will jointly participate in the “AI and Oncology” area of the event to present the initiative. The ASCO Guideline Generator is expected to assist in the ongoing development and updating of oncology guidelines, with full availability of Ovid Guidelines AI anticipated in early 2026.
Ovid Guidelines AI is Wolters Kluwer Health’s first agentic GenAI solution. It incorporates established frameworks, including the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) and Grading of Recommendations Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE), into its workflow. These elements enable guideline developers to document, assess, and revise recommendations with methodological transparency. The system is built to support the complete guideline lifecycle, offering a shared environment for researchers, panels, and boards to manage evidence, decisions, and project coordination over time.
As part of its development, Wolters Kluwer is working with Google Cloud to integrate advanced AI capabilities. The solution utilizes Google’s Gemini models and the Vertex AI platform to enhance natural language processing, data ingestion, and clinical content analysis. These technologies are designed to complement Wolters Kluwer’s GenAI framework and enable more scalable and efficient guideline creation.
ASCO’s participation is positioned to bring domain-specific expertise into the platform’s evolution, and the organization will be among the first to implement Ovid Guidelines AI for operational use. According to ASCO, the new tools—including the ASCO Guidelines Assistant and forthcoming Guideline Generator—are intended to improve content discoverability and simplify both the production and application of guidelines in clinical settings.
Through this collaboration, Wolters Kluwer aims to support oncology professionals in transforming research into actionable guidance and furthering access to evidence-based recommendations in cancer care.
