Pearson and Google partner to accelerate development of AI tools for education -

Pearson and Google Cloud have announced a multi-year strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the development of AI-powered products and services for students and educators. The collaboration will combine Pearson’s expertise in K-12 learning with Google Cloud’s advanced AI technologies to deliver more personalized learning, enhance teacher support, and improve educational outcomes.

The partnership will leverage Google Cloud’s Vertex AI platform and the Gemini family of large language models, which are further fine-tuned for learning through Google’s LearnLM and agentic AI frameworks. These tools will be integrated into Pearson’s AI-enabled products and services, particularly in the K-12 education sector.

The collaboration focuses on five key areas:

Personalized student learning: The two companies will work together to develop agentic AI study tools that adapt to individual student pace and progress, aiming to keep learners engaged and on track.

Teacher support through data: By using platforms such as BigQuery, teachers will gain comprehensive insights into student learning and progress, allowing for more targeted instruction aligned with educational standards.

Scalable AI-powered content: The partnership will enhance the way schools access and implement Pearson’s AI-enabled content using Google Cloud tools like Veo and Imagen, designed to securely and efficiently deliver educational resources across learning environments.

Responsible AI deployment: The agreement includes a shared commitment to ensure that AI-driven education products are developed responsibly, with a focus on safety, privacy, and the needs of students and educators.

Professional credentialing: Google Cloud will continue using Pearson’s Credly platform for issuing digital credentials and certifications.

In addition to product development, Google for Education and Pearson will collaborate on go-to-market activities and explore integration opportunities across their product suites. The initiative is intended to deliver enriched content and more engaging experiences for students, while equipping educators with AI-driven tools that support effective teaching.

Pearson provides K-12 assessments, curriculum-aligned content, virtual schools such as Connections Academy, and internationally recognized qualifications including GCSEs and A levels. It also operates the GED Testing Service, which has supported more than 21 million graduates since 1942. Pearson stated that its use of AI is grounded in learning science, reviewed by subject matter experts, and built on its trusted library of learning content.
